The interested parties beg for Tinubu to review the appointment of DG, the national council of agricultural seeds

President Bola Tinubu: urged to review the appointment of NATO DG

The interested parties and experts in the Nigeria seed sector have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the recent appointment of a substantial general manager for the National Agricultural Seed Council (NATO).

The concern of the interested parties derive from the fact that Hon Fatuhu Mohammed Buhari, appointed substantial general manager of the Council, did not have the necessary professional qualification and the experience related to the science and technology of seeds, as required in the law that establishes the Council.

In the open letter to President Tinubu signed on behalf of the seed sector by the engineer Olagbaju Akeju, a technical consultant/seed processor, the group cited a violation of part III, section 6 of the National Seed Council Act of 2019, which is the regulatory framework to establish the food government and remove the system of nigerial seeds.

In particular, part III, section 6, says: “The president will appoint the Minister of the Hon’s recommendation.

The group said that “this requirement is very fundamental to continue supporting the gain and international recognition of the Nigerian seed system as an African model”.

According to the group, “it is for this purpose that Mr. President’s attention is invited to take another look at the appointment of the Hon. Fatuhu Mohammed Buhari as General Manager of the Council as previously announced and confirmed, pending the request of Dr. Isiaku Othman Khalid to serve as a substantial general manager of the Council for a single period.”

It would be remembered that until a few days ago, before Hon’s announcement. Fatuhu Mohammed Buhari as general manager by Mr. President, General Manager to Interim, dr. Ishiaku Othman Khalid, a semi -expert expert who grew up within the system to become a director, should have been confirmed as a substantial general manager.

“During his mandate in acting skills, the Council of Seeds reached international recognition as evidenced by the Council of Heads of the States of the African Union for the Food Safety Committee. The Nigerian Semi -Semi system has also become remarkable as a model that works for Nigeria and should be adopted by other African countries.”

On the appointment of basic professionals to direct the Council, the group observed: “From its institution, the leadership of this unique agency has always been selected among professionals in the science and technology of the relevant seeds for the position of general manager.

“It seemed that Mr. President was missed to appoint a non -professional manager. This appointment not only marked the existing law, but also violated the belief of Mr. President to give the opportunity to serve the officers to reach the peak of their careers”.
