The killing ritual triggered anger in Ondo when police officers lost two sons in a terrible incident

The tragedy struck a quiet agrarian community at Odigbo at Ondo State on Tuesday as a 26-year-old man, who was identified as Daniel, allegedly beheading his 15-year-old brother, Emmanuel, in what was suspected of being a ritual murder.

This shocking action caused rapid mass justice as an angry young man in the community to punish the suspect.

Both of them are the son of a senior police officer who served in the area. The deaths of brothers have thrown the community into deep and disbelief sorrow. Witnesses and residents remain stunned by the terrible nature of the incident given the close family ties between the perpetrators and victims.

According to a local resident, Roland Akinkunmi, the incident occurred on Monday night along the banks of a remote origbara river. He claimed that Daniel reportedly captivated Emmanuel to the river bank with fake reasons. While trying to hide the broken head in a black bag, Daniel was seen by a pedestrian who immediately raised the alarm.

“I was near the palace when I heard people screaming from the river,” recalled Akinkunmi. “I saw Daniel holding what turned out to be human head, although at first I did not realize that it belonged to his brother. Everyone was still surprised. This was beyond understanding.”

Residents revealed that even though brothers had a history of quarrels occasionally, no one could anticipate such terrible results. Members of the community also stated the belief that Daniel might have been influenced by ritualistic motives, concerns that continue to arouse anxiety in the city.

“This is not a type of community where you can shed human blood and not exposed,” said another resident, noting the spiritual significance related to the local population with ritual murder.

Responding to the murder, the young people in the area chased Daniel and reportedly killed him before the authorities could intervene.

Confirming the incident, Spokesperson for the State Police Command Ondo, SP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that Police Commissioner, CP Adebowale Lawal, had ordered a direct and comprehensive investigation of the problem.

“This case has been transferred to the Department of State Criminal Investigation (SCID) for wise investigations,” Olayinka said. “The Ondo State Police Command assured residents that no stone missed in revealing the situation around this tragic death.”

The police have urged residents to remain calm while the investigation continues.
