The Labor Party (LP) has issued a stern warning, vowing to fight what is described as a alleged plot by the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) to forcefully take over its national office.
The party claims that the NLC works together with the National Guard Committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman and the NLC National Transition Committee.
Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, National Secretary of the Labor Party led by Julius Abure, released a statement on Sunday in Abuja, outlines the attitude of the party.
“This has become a concern of the Labor Party’s leadership that the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) mobilizes its members, employing people, and several criminals, in collaboration with the National Management Committee (NCC) led by Nenadi Usman, the National Transition Committee (NTC), to invade Secretariat of Our Secretariat,” National Transition.
According to the statement, the alleged invasion, which is said to be funded by the government of the state of Abia and leading party leaders, is expected to begin on Monday, April 7, 2025. “The NLC plans to illegally enter the office at the National Headquarters, which aims to steal sensitive documents and damage party property,” Ibrahim is suspected.

Ibrahim condemned actions that were suspected as “irresponsible” and indications of “despair” of NLC. He stressed that the trade union, legally prohibited from being involved in partisan politics, had previously mobilized “criminals” to “tarnish” the national headquarters of the Labor Party and damaged its property.
He also referred to the decision of the new Supreme Court. “The decision of the Supreme Court submitted on April 5, 2025, is clear and not ambiguous. The judgment mandates political parties to resolve their crisis using internal mechanisms and that leadership issues are internal problems to be handled by the party.
Ibrahim reiterated the legitimacy of the current LP leadership. “He reiterated that LP’s leadership was still intact and that lawyer Julius Abure, who was legally elected at the party convention in March 2024, remained a national chairman. Every effort to force the current leadership will meet with resistance.”
He concluded by asking the security agent to intervene. “Ibrahim also asked security institutions, including the police and DSS, to ensure that every activity that could disrupt the peace of the Federal Capital Region (FCT) was immediately stopped and that those who were responsible for any illegal actions were arrested and held accountable.”
