The Labor Party Shoots back to Obi, blaming him over the internal crisis ahead of 2027 elections

Tension between former presidential candidate Peter Obi and the leadership of the Labor Party (LP) has reached the highest new, with the party accusing him to blackmail and fail in leadership, because both sides blamed before the 2027 general election.

The clash took part in the new Obi interview on Arise Television, where he claimed all the progressive congress (APC) had infiltrated the labor party with the aim of disrupting its internal structure. LP leadership, however, has replied, calling Obi’s claims are not basic and deflection of their own failures to provide direction.

Speaking on Tuesday, the National Secretary of the Labor Party, Umar Farouk, rejected the accusation and described it as part of the wrong information campaign and manipulation calculated against the National Party Chairperson, Julius Abure, and national leadership.

“Our attention was called for an interview given by Obi where he accused that the Federal government led by APC had infiltrated the leadership of the Labor Party and triggered a crisis in the party. But when asked to produce evidence, Obi did not have anything to be offered,” said Farouk.

He accused Obi intentionally misleading Nigerians about the roots of the cause of the internal party problems and claiming that Prison was no different from other parties who deal with internal disputes.

“Unfortunately, Obi continues to make a mistake in the performance of the Nigerians at the roots of the internal crisis in the labor party, even though he knows that most political parties face a form of crisis or other,” he said.

Farouk did not stop there. He also directed his fingers to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, said both Obi and Otti had triggered disputes in the party and had not yet received accountability for their actions. He added that Otti remained suspended from the party because of the alleged anti-party activities.

“Nothing is perfect. When good leaders fail, they must be responsible. Obi fails to provide leadership for the party and must recognize that failure instead of blaming,” Farouk demanded.

The Labor Party also highlighted what he called Obi’s conflicting attitude during the TV interview that emerged, noted that regardless of his criticism, Obi recognized Julius Abure as the National Party Chairperson, who was interpreted as an implicit recognition of the legitimacy of current leadership.

“As far as we know, this problem is resolved. Julius Abure remains the national chairman of the labor party. The fact is not in dispute. We urge Peter Obi and other members who are disadvantaged to accept this and work towards party unity,” he concluded.

Increased feud gave a shadow of the readiness of the Labor Party for the 2027 election, with fears that internal tensions that had not been resolved could weaken the cohesion and credibility of the party in the eyes of their supporters.

For now, Peter Obi has not officially responded to the latest accusations, but political observers warn that if the gap is getting deeper, the party may struggle to replicate the momentum achieved in the 2023 election.
