The Lagos government asks Lasu unions to end the strike

The state government of Lagos on Monday appealed to hit the unions at the Lagos State University (Lasu) to cancel their indefinite industrial action.

The government, through its Ministry of Tertiary Education, has declared its commitment to resolve the requests for well -being of the unions through dialogue rather than the interruption.

This was contained in a declaration issued by the Director, Public Affairs, the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mamud Hassan.

He said that the strike, led by the joint action committee (Jac), which includes Asu-Lasu, Ssanu-Lasu, Naat-Lasu and Nasu-Lasu, led to the suspension of academic and administrative activities, with a negative impact on the academic calendar of the University and the future of its students.

He said that high -level meetings have already been held with trade union representatives, including the head of service, Mr. Bode Agoro. During these meetings, it was mutually agreed on the fact that any disruptive action should be set aside to allow the government to critically evaluate the requests of the unions.

“The state government argues that the administration of the governor Babajide Sanwo-Ever remains engaged in the well-being of all state public employees, including those in the tertiary education sector.”

The head of the Service and the officials of the Ministry of Tertiary Education and the Ministry of establishments and training have ensured unions who are actively working to find a sustainable and friendly solution.

The commissioner for tertiary education, Hon. Tolani Sule, has begged the understanding and cooperation of all the interested parties and urged the trade union leaders to consider the government’s efforts in financing the university between the growing requests and challenges of managing a mega-city like Lagos.
