Two air-to-surface missiles fired by the Israeli military at a civilian SUV in the city of Sidon killed a leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades on Wednesday.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is the armed wing of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah).
A Lebanese military source confirmed the incident to reporters in Beirut.
The victim was identified as Khalil Maqdah, a leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
He is also the brother of Fatah commander Munir Maqdah.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on October 8, 2023, following a series of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah towards Israel in solidarity with Hamas attacks on Israel the day before.
Israel then responded by firing heavy artillery towards Southeast Lebanon.
The situation escalated after an Israeli attack on Dahieh in Beirut’s southern suburbs, killing senior Hezbollah military commander Fouad Shokor and seven civilians.
