The command of the Delta State Police confirmed that a man identified as Taye, accused of having secretly killed and buried his 13 -year -old daughter, Davina, surrendered to the authorities.
According to the command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, Taye delivered himself to the Ebumede division, area of the local UVWIE government, days after his wife was arrested in relation to the accident.
“Confirmed. We cannot say that he killed him for now until the autopsy is performed,” Edafe said in a WhatsApp message to Warri journalists.
The disturbing case took place on Sunday 7 September, at the Ugbolokpo community in Uvwie, where Davina was presumably buried in questionable circumstances.
Reports indicate that the girl had been sent to her father’s house for a holiday at her request.
Her mother, Dorcas, who had raised Davina for 13 years, said she was subsequently informed of the death and sudden burial of her daughter.
Civil rights groups urged the police to lead an in -depth investigation.
They asked for Davina’s body to be exulted and a post mortem made to determine the real cause of death.
“It is the suspicion that his wife face justice if found guilty. The death of this child must not be swept under the carpet,” said an activist.
According to Dercas, there were previous warnings that he could never see his daughter again after giving it to Taye.
He also said that once Davina begged her to the phone to bring her home, a call intercepted by
father.
The suspect’s wife, who denied the involvement, said she had traveled for over a week and that Davina was healthy when she left. However, community members insist on the fact that he also has questions to answer.
The police assured the public that investigations are underway. An autopsy should shed light on the cause of the adolescent death. (Tribuna)
