The Mexican drug Lord Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, who led Sinaloa …

Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada

The former Kingpin of the Mexican cartel Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada declared himself guilty on Monday for the accusations of American drug trafficking, saying that he was sorry for having contributed to flooding the United States of cocaine and other illegal substances.

“I recognize that large illegal drugs made people in the United States and Mexico,” he said through an interpreter in Spanish. “I apologize for all this and I take responsibility for my actions.”

Under the guidance of Zambada and Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, public ministries say that the Sinaloa sign evolved from a regional player in the largest organization of drug trafficking in the world.

In declaring himself guilty, Zambada recognized the extent of Sinaloa’s operation, including the submarines that built relations with cocaine producers in Colombia, supervised the import of cocaine in Mexico on the boat and by plane and the smuggling of the drug through the border between the United States-Messic.

He recognized that the people who work for him paid bribes to the Mexican police and military commanders “so that they could operate freely”, going up when the sign was just starting.

Zambada participated in his reason in a Federal Court of Brooklyn, two weeks after public ministries said they would not seek death sentence against him. Instead, he expects to be sentenced to life in prison on 13 January.

The 77 -year -old declared himself guilty of a counting of the racket conspiracy and a count of managing a continuous criminal company. Will be sentenced to a mandatory lifting period in prison, with a sentence set for January 13th

Zambada had declared himself not guilty last year for a series of drug trafficking and related accusations, including crimes of recycling weapons and money.

Public ministries say that Zambada chaired a violent and highly militarized sign with a private safety force armed with powerful weapons and a group of “Sicarios” or Hitmen, who carried out murders, kidnappings and torture.

Zambada’s lawyers did not immediately respond to an E -mail looking for comments on Friday.

Guzmán was sentenced to life imprisonment behind the bars following his sentence in the same federal court of Brooklyn in 2019. His two children, who managed a faction of the sign, also face federal accusations.

The Sinaloa sign is the oldest criminal group of Mexico, with various incarnations dating back to the 70s. He is a player of power on drug trafficking: a former member of the Mexican cabinet was sentenced for taking bribes to help the sign.

Considered a good negotiator, Zambada has been seen as the sign strategist and the Reaker, which was thought to be more involved in his daily actions than the more bright Guzmán. However, public ministries said that Zambada was also invoked in the violence of the group, at a certain point by ordering the murder of his nephew.

The US law enforcement officers have sought Zambada for more than two decades, but has never been arrested in any country until he was taken in custody in Texas last year. He had arrived in a private plane with one of the children of Guzmán, Joaquín Guzmán López. Guzmán López declared himself not guilty of accusations of federal drug trafficking in Chicago; His brother, Ovidio Guzmán López, declared himself guilty last month.

Zambada said he was kidnapped in Mexico and taken against his will in the United States who had often been in contrast with the children of Guzmán, nicknamed the Chapitos, a term that translates into “Little Chapos”.

The arrest of Zambada touched the mortal fights in Mexico among the factions of the rival Sinaloa cartel, apparently putting his loyalists against the supporters of the children of Guzmán.
