The Minister of Information did not rejected Zulum’s security concerns

The office of the Minister of Information and National Orientation noted a misleading caption by an online publication that suggests that the minister, Mohammed Idris, rejected the recent concerns raised by the governor of the State of Borno, prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, regarding the situation of security in the state.

A declaration on Thursday by the media assistants to the minister, Rabiu Ibrahim, described the story as “categorically false and a serious distortion of the minister’s observations”.

He said that at no time the minister said “ignore Zulum, Boko Haram did not conquer Borno”.

Such a title is not only sensational, but deliberately realized as a deliberate deed of disinformation to feed public misunderstanding and distract from the serious work that the federal government is doing to face the security challenges.

He said that in his response to the media investigations on the observations of the Governor Zulum, the minister recognized that while the federal government has made significant progress in restoring peace and security in many parts of the country, some areas continue to face the challenges to security.

He underlined the current efforts by military and security forces, the investments supported in hardware and security intelligence and the unshakable commitment of the Federal Government to eradicate terrorism and the bandits under the guidance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He observed that the minister also invited all interested parties, including state governments, to continue to collaborate with the federal government to bring lasting peace to the affected communities.

He said that the minister’s comments were intended to provide a context on the progress made, not to reject or minimize legitimate concerns.

β€œWe urge the media platforms to support the ethics of responsible journalism by avoiding sensationalism and publishing only verified and accurate information.

“The task of reconstructing peace and security in our nation is collective that it must not be threatened by a reckless and irresponsible reportage,” he said.
