The minister wants Nigeria to send fear into opponents in the build-up to the World Cup qualifiers

Nigerian Sports Minister John Enoh said it would be beneficial for the Super Eagles if their opponents in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers were scared before the match.

The Super Eagles failed to win a single game in Group C qualifying, drawing three and losing one of their first four matches.

The team is currently in a disappointing position, but Minister Enoh is optimistic they can still secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“The majority opinion is that it is not impossible (to qualify for the World Cup),” the Sports Minister said in an interview on Eagle7 FM on Saturday.

“In sports, nothing is recorded.

“We’ve only played four of our 10 qualifying games, we still have six games left.

“I believe that with the right combination of coach, who believes it is possible, the right mentality of the players, they have to have the passion and hunger, it is still possible.

“The next qualifying round will be held in March next year, so we have time.

“To do it right, we have to do things in preparation (for the next qualifying round) to strike fear into our opponents.”

The Super Eagles are in fifth place in Group C, which also consists of Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia, Lesotho and Benin Republic.

The winner of this group will automatically qualify for the global event scheduled to be held in North America.

Qualification will resume in March 2025.
