The Nasarawa Government ordered the population of flood -prone areas to move

The nasarawa state government on Saturday ordered residents who are flooded prone to move to higher reasons.

This follows the death of 150 people in the destroying floods in neighboring Niger neighboring countries.

Commissioner of the State for the Environment and Natural Resources, Margaret Elayo, gave direction after monitoring the May edition of monthly cleansing exercises in the state.

He said the direction had become necessary to follow predictions by the Nigerian Meteorology Agency (NIMET) about flooding this year.

“We partner with the Chairperson of the Regional Government (LGA) and traditional rulers to show those affected by the direction of this relocation where they must go now for their safety.

“They have to take their valuables and leave their homes for now so that when floods eventually occur, no life will be lost,” he said.

Elsyo urges people in the state to stop removing shelter in the drain or building in the water channel to prevent flooding.
