The National Assembly proposed a bill to make an official place for Arcade for the inauguration of the President

The Nigerian National Council is regulated to introduce new laws which will officially establish arcade as an official place for the inauguration of the president in the future.

This was revealed by the Senate Leader, Openemi Bamidle, on Tuesday in Abuja while talking to journalists about activities that marked the commemoration of Democracy Day on June 12.

According to Bamidele, the proposed law is part of a broader effort by parliament to deepen democratic practices and provide greater symbolic weight for the main national moments.

“We also hope to change our political background to the extent that the next presidential oath will, with God’s grace, is in the Arcade of the Nigerian National Assembly,” he said.

In addition to the inauguration site, Bamidele revealed that the National Assembly also considered a bill that would require the president to deliver the annual ‘state of the nation address’ on June 12 before the joint senate session and the House of Representatives.

“It is our desire to institutionalize the state speech. We will bring a bill to overcome it, to ensure that it is institutionalized. People must look forward to it,” he said.

Highlighting the historical significance of the date, he added, “President Tinubu works with the National Assembly in that regard. June 12 will be a better time for the President to speak to the nation through the National Assembly.

“There is no better day from June 12 for the President to speak to the nation, because of its historical significance. This is a seat with the National Assembly. Nigeria must look forward to this legislative initiative.”

As part of this year’s Democratic Day celebration, the President of the Tinubu Bola was invited to discuss a session with the Legislative Body on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

June 12 is widely considered in Nigeria as an important moment in the country’s democratic journey. This commemorates the 1993 presidential election, which is believed to be the fairest and most credible in the history of the country, and respect the memory of the suspected winner, the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola.
