Public relations officer of the service, Umar Abubakar, deputy controller of corrections.

The declaration stated: “The attention of the Nigerian correction service (NCOS) was attracted to a recent publication by claiming that the prisoners in custody centers are fueled badly. The service categorically due this statement as false, misleading and a serious false declaration of realities within our structures.

β€œThis adjustment aims to ensure that detainees receive adequate and nutritious meals in line with acceptable welfare standards.

“The increase reflects the government’s commitment to the human treatment of people in custody and the wider reforms implemented within the Nigerian correction service to support the dignity of human rights and the best international practices.”

The declaration added that: “Furthermore, the feeding of prisoners is not conducted in secrecy as various independent supervision bodies, including the Ministry of Interior, the groups of civil society and international partners, periodically evaluate the conditions in our custody centers.

β€œNone of their recent relationships supports the dehumanizing representation spread by some individuals or groups of interest on the well -being of prisoners.

β€œThe public in general [sic] It ensures that the service remains committed to supporting the rights and dignity of all prisoners in line with the best international practices.

“The service urges the members of the public and the media to verify the information before dissemination and avoid the sensationalism that undermines the hard work of our staff and the integrity of the service.”
