The Nigerian government denies increasing the minimum age of JSS1 to 12

The federal government has denied a report that claims that the minimum age to enter Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) has been raised to 12 years.

A report appeared earlier on Friday that the federal government had set the age of entry for students who seek entering into JSS1 in 12 years.

However, the press director at the Federal Ministry of Education, Ny. Folasade Boriowo, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, described the report inaccurate.

Boriowo said the report did not come from any official source and did not reflect government policy.

He said: “To avoid doubts, the minimum age to enter JSS1 remains 10 years.

“No child has to complete basic education under the age of 10 years” “

The Director urged the Public and Education Stakeholders to ignore conflicting claims.
