The Nigerian government is investigating allegations of ticket racketeering on the Abuja-Kaduna railway line

Following numerous complaints from passengers, the Federal Government has launched an investigation into alleged ticket racketeering on the Abuja-Kaduna train route.

This was revealed by the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, through a post on the official X account (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, September 29 2024.

He revealed that he directed the managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Oakhiria to set up a committee whose task would be to investigate and address the reported issues.

Minister Alkali in his statement addressed the issues raised by travelers regarding the challenges they experienced when trying to buy train tickets from Abuja to Kaduna.

He emphasized that the committee’s primary goal is to review the entire ticketing process, with a focus on identifying any negligence in mismanagement and ensuring those responsible can be held accountable.

“Following numerous complaints from passengers regarding problems in purchasing tickets, I have instructed the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) @info_NRC to establish an investigative committee and resolve the alleged negligence that caused this problem on the Abuja-Kaduna route, with a focus on holding those responsible accountable answer.

“This committee will be tasked with conducting a detailed review of the ticket purchasing process, identifying areas of neglect or mismanagement, and implementing necessary remedial measures,” the minister’s statement read in part.

This step aims to restore public confidence in the railway system by increasing transparency and efficiency in the ticketing process.

Apart from the directive to investigate alleged ticket racketeering, Transport Minister Saidu Alkali also noted in an image attached to X’s post (formerly Twitter) that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) had increased the number of train trips on the route. Kaduna-Abuja railway line.
