The federal government has reiterated its warning to foreigners with expired visas, urged them to leave Nigeria in a grace period of three months to avoid severe sanctions.

This announcement came when the service confirmed that, effective August 2, a permanent entry prohibition would be imposed on foreigners who exceeded their visa for more than 12 months.
The Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo previously announced more stringent steps at a meeting with the Nigerian Entrepreneur Consultative Association (NECA) in Lagos last month, including a five-year entry prohibition for those who lived for six months and a ten-year ban for those who lived for more than one year, along with a daily fine of $ 15 from the Visa Daily Ties.
However, NIS’s statement clarified that the penalty due to oversaying for one year or more had been upgraded to the permanent black list.
