The Nigerian government reiterates free school fees in federal technical tertiary institutions, warning illegal costs

The federal government has reiterated that the tuition fees and approved costs in all Federal Technical Universities (FTC) remain free, warning the principal and administrator not to impose invalid accusations to students.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and was distributed through the official grip of the Ministry of Education on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, re -emphasizing the administrative commitment to fund fully technical education, to ensure the same access for all Nigerian children.

Alausa stressed that the government includes all approved costs, including dormitories, uniforms, textbooks, training books, prospectus, identity cards, stationery, clubs and communities, medical services, vocational training, utilities, security, websites/results, scool media, additional lessons, and insurance. He noted that the circular was sent to FTC nationally to uphold compliance.

“No administrator is allowed to demand additional payments from parents or guardians,” said Alausa, urged parents to report illegal levies directly to the Ministry through the Hotline 0803 657 6733 and 0803 637 3796, or via email at [email protected].

The Minister clarifies, however, that while tuition and core fees are students who are funded by the government, dormitory students are expected to provide certain personal items, such as toiletries, beds, and clothing. The ministry registered some of these items to include white sheets, pillowcases, white goods, hoes, rain boots, buckets, bath soap, and an A4 paper rim for registration.

According to Alausa, this initiative is a major component of the new hope of the President of the Tinubu Bola, which prioritizes technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as a foundation for the development of human resources and national competitiveness.

“There is no Nigerian child who must be rejected access to technical education because of illegal accusations. By investing in education, we are building a stronger and more independent Nigeria,” he said.

The Minister ensured that the monitoring mechanism had been determined quickly to overcome violations, while calling for stakeholders to help protect free education policies and ensure that FTC meets their mandate to produce skilled graduates for national transformation.
