The Nigerian government to reopen Enugu Airport on Monday

The federal government will reopen the Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for flight operations on Monday.

This follows the completion of emergency repair work on the airport runway.

Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Federal Nigeria Airport Authority (Faan), Ny. Obiageli Orah, revealed this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

Faan on April 18 announced the closure of the airport for repairs due to the sudden and significant rupture on the asphalt surface on the critical part of the runway.

The wrong runway has caused airlines to operate at the airport to suspend operations or divert flights to the nearest airport.

According to Orah, the work is scheduled to begin on April 22 and end before reopen on May 6.

Orah said: “However, rehabilitation work on the runway has been completed, and the runway is cleaned for landing and take -off by the engineers who work with Faan.

“Faan appreciates all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation so far.

“Authority sincerely apologizes for this inconvenience but convincing the public that all actions are taken for the sake of safety.”
