The NIMC problem warning to sales, Nin, said it was illegal, open for severe punishment

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a stern warning to the Nigerians, urged them to refrain from revealing their national identification numbers (ninth) to unauthorized entities in return for money.

This attention comes in response to individual reports in the State of Anambra who are interested in handing over their nine to financial benefits.

The commission has considered this practice illegal and can be punished based on NIMC Law No. 23 of 2007, Data Protection Law, and Cyber Crime Laws.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communication, NIMC confirmed that the arrest had been made in collaboration with security agents. “The National Identity Management Commission has been informed of the unauthorized individual or organizational activities which is said to ask for the submission of the national identification of the Anambra population with money rewards,” the statement said.

“After receiving information about the activities of immoral people, NIMC, together with the Nigerian State Service Department and Police, quickly captured the perpetrators behind Nin’s illegal collection. They are currently being interrogated and will be made to face gloomy full of law,” Adegoke said.

NIMC emphasized that the commission and federal government did not approve of the ninth collection or use by third parties for monetary incentives. “There is no time the Nin holder should provide ninth for monetary compensation. This is contrary to the law of federation. Anyone who is caught will be handled correctly,” the commission warned.

The agency reiterated the previous advisor, urged the Nigerians to protect the nine and their personal data from platforms or individuals who were not verified, reminded that such actions could cause theft of identity and other cyberspace crimes. “Nin can only be used by holders to access government services or the private sector, and must be verified,” the statement added.

NIMC further encourages people to report suspicious or invalid Nin collections to the official channel.
