A coalition of opposition parties in the state of Lagos has rejected the results of the local government elections on Saturday, calling for their direct cancellation and described the exercise as “daytime robbery” and “democratic attacks sponsored by the state.”
At a joint press conference in Lagos, the leaders of the Labor Party (LP), the Young Progressives Party (YPP), the African Action Congress (AAC), the People’s Action Congress (APP), the ACCord Party, and others, condemned the Lagos State Independent Election Commission (LASEC) for what they called the irregularity that was widespread and did not have an opponent’s candidate.
The Lagos State Chapter from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) also joined the call for compensation, with the forum of the Regional Government Chair to challenge the results of the election in the court.
Speaking to the media on behalf of the Labor Party, Father Dayo Ekong, whose speech was delivered by his deputy Mr. Olasupo Ajayi, described the election as “rape of a systematic state -sponsored democracy.”
He said: “The election of the recently controlled local government is not training in democratic choice; they are a planned and carefully executed and executed actor to force the will of the ruling party to the people of Lagos.
“We witnessed, and documented, the widespread deviation arranged by LASEC. We really reject the results of the fraud stated by LASEC in LGA affected. We hold a soccer judge who is personally responsible for this parody and the total collapse of the credibility of LasiC under his supervision.

“Our determination is not shaken. We compile complete evidence from this cruelty. We will explore each legal and constitutional path available to challenge this election robbery.
“We will not rest until justice is served and the will of the people of Lagos is respected. The Labor Party will not let the robbery this day stand unmatched.”
Echoing the sentiment, Mr. Olusegun Mobolaji from YPP criticized the entire selection process as a disability and managed poorly.
“The process that leads to this poll is full of deviations and anomalies; even the schedule is conflicting, boring, choky and unbearable for the opposition parties. Some parties have the form of nominations from lasiec two days before the election due to some problems – how can you assume the credibility of such elections?”
In his remarks, Mrs. Abiola Adeyemi, Chairperson of the State Application and Secretary of the Inter -Party Advisory Council (IPAC), told the incident that was troubling in Badagry: “I was almost beaten by the alleged APC thugs for complaining about the elimination of the application logo from Balot in Badagry.”
Mr. Dele Oladeji, Chair of the Accord Party, also voiced strong objections:
“Lasec acted as an election player, not as a referee. We fought against Lasec. That is a systematic fraud designed before the election day.”
PDP also refused the election as a fake. The Head of Adegboyega AdegBesan, Chair of the forum and PDP leader in Oshodi-Isolo LGA, stated:
“What happened on Saturday is not an election. It is a crime and a criminal conspiracy to the will of the people’s sovereignty. In the PDP fortress throughout the state, filling the ballot box occurred on a large scale. Pre-thumbpretakan ballots were sent in a bag.
“In many regions, the election material arrives late or not at all, and the documentation is deliberately incomplete to frustrate PDP supporters and reduce the number of voters.”
All parties vowed to take legal and constitutional steps to challenge the behavior and results of the election, insisting that the people’s mandate must be protected.
