The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65 -year -old man for allegedly an illegal parade as “Obi Lagos” during his installation ceremony.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos. He revealed that the suspect, the native of the ancient Kingdom Obodoukwu in the Ideato North Government Area in the IMO state, was captured along with three others aged 41, 51, and 65.
According to the police, the intelligence report revealed that the group had concluded plans to uncover the prototype of 1.5 billion “Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin.
“Acting on this information, the police sealed the place to prevent violations of peace and protect community members who were not suspicious from being thinned. Adequate personnel, including conventional operators, Eko strikes, and other tactical teams, were deployed to ensure that the incident was not continued,” the statement was read.
The suspects are currently detained when the investigation continues, with the authorities promising that they will be prosecuted with the conclusion of the investigation.
Police Commissioner, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, urged community members to remain aware of fraudsters who want to exploit respected cultural and traditional institutions.
“Such actions violate the law, contrary to the state law, and are able to disturb public order. Command will continue to uphold the law firmly against every individual or group involved in actions that damage the legality and integrity of the state,” said CP.
