The police capture 2 and foil an attempted child theft in Ondo


The Ondo State Police Command has closed a case of conspiracy and attempted child abduction reported in Ogbagi Akoko on March 22, 2026.

The incident was reported by one Mrs Olanireti, who resides at Loso Street, Ogbagi Akoko.

He said he sent his three-year-old son, Alex Ayobami “M,” to meet his grandmother who lives behind his shop. Shortly afterwards, the alarm was raised by a concerned member of the public, one Oni, who noticed suspicious activity involving the child.

Acting quickly on the alarm, the complainant rushed to the scene where she discovered two suspects, identified as Adefarati Idowu “M” and Adepoju Babatunde “M” attempting to flee the area on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle with her son. It was also gathered that the child’s grandmother, Mrs. Olawale “F”, bravely intervened by holding onto the motorcycle, while other alert residents quickly mobilized and blocked the escape of the suspects.

The police arrived immediately and the child was rescued unharmed.

The suspects were arrested on the spot through the collective efforts of community members, and the case has since been transferred to the police headquarters for a discreet and thorough investigation.

The police chief said the command is committed to uncovering the full circumstances of the incident, including any possible wider criminal network, and ensuring that all perpetrators are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command has commended the courage, vigilance and prompt response of community members, whose collective action prevented what could have escalated into a serious crime. This incident highlights the importance of community policing and the vital role citizens play in supporting security agencies.
