The police command in IMO has relegated an officer, the sergeant. Anayo Ekezi, to the rank of corporal, for having brutalized a middle -aged man in the state with a smoking gunner.

The head of the Public Relations of the Command Police (PPRO), DSP Henry Okoye, revealed it in a statement on Thursday in Owerri.

Okoye said that the relegated officer was identified in a viral video showing the police officers who attacked the young man along the Owerri -aa road.

He said the command in response started disciplinary action against officers.

According to him, other officers seen in the video of the assault had INSP Ophem Obongha and Isp Obinna Okereke, all from the safest motorway unit.

“Following a review of the video, the command has conducted a trial in the room ordered in line with the disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Forces.

“Sergeant Ekezi was stated that he had used his smoke issued in the assault and was relegated to the degree of corporal.

“Obongha and Okereke inspectors were seriously reproached for not having exercised adequate supervision control, which allowed the non -professional conduct to occur.”

Okoye said that the police commissioner in the state, Abaki Danjuma, condemned the actions of the officers, describing them as a violation of the code of conduct of the strength and standards of human rights.

He said that Danjuma reiterated the zero tolerance policy for the misconduct of the police and promised appropriate actions for those who have been judged guilty.

Okoye, therefore, urged the members of the public to report any misconduct accidents of the police through the unit of response to complaints (CRA), X-QUAD unit or through 08033424051, 0814 802 4755.

The police spokesman underlined the commitment of the command against transparency, professionalism and protection of citizens’ rights.
