The police refused the accusation of supplying bandits in Kogi, describing viral videos as wrong information

The Nigerian police force firmly rejected the accusation that one of the helicopters was used to send food to bandits in the state of Kogi, said the claim was wrong, misleading, and efforts to discredit the ongoing security efforts.

The rejection came in response to a viral video that shows the landing of police helicopters in a place that seems to be a remote location surrounded by armed men. The recording triggered broad speculation on social media, with some users accusing that the aircraft was involved in helping criminal groups.

However, in a statement released on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the video was taken during a valid security operation conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in the Obajana area in the Kogi state.

Nigerian police want to discuss videos that are currently circulating online, illustrating the landing of police helicopters and taking off in the area with armed people. Contrary to misleading and fake narratives that show that the aircraft was used to send food items to bandits, the troops stated that the video captured legitimate security operations, “Adejobi said.

According to him, the operation was part of the coordinated mission involving police personnel, local residents, and hunters, who were targeted to dismantle criminal hiding places and curb bandits and kidnappings in the region. The helicopter, he explained, provided air supervision and tactical support for land forces.

“This is the man who risks their lives at the forefront to secure a vulnerable community, not a conspirator,” he said. “The presence of the helicopter is to increase the effectiveness of the tactical team together, not for illegal or cheating shipments.”

Adejobi also condemned the spread of what he called a narrative that was “baseless and naughty”, warned that the wrong information eroded public trust and damaged the sacrifice of security personnel who worked in terrain dangerous to protect life and property.

“We urge the public to only rely on verified renewal from the official police communication channel. The wrong information on this scale only serves the interests of those who want to disrupt the country and discredit our efforts,” the statement added.
