The police thwarted the kidnapping efforts, passengers died in Kogi

The police operation in Kogi on Monday thwarted efforts by the kidnappers to kidnap passengers along the Obajana-Eshokoshoko road in the state.

A spokesman for the State Police Command, Williams Ovye-Waya, confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday at Lokoja.

He, however, said a passenger died while six others suffered injuries in the process.

Ovye-waah said: “On June 23, Obajana Division operations thwarted the efforts of passenger abduction along the Obajana-Eshokoshoko road.

“The police patrol team immediately responded to sporadic shots and involved criminals in a weapon duel, forcing them to escape.

“All passengers were rescued, but six sustainable injuries, and one later died while receiving treatment.”

“The operators, in a separate incident on June 21, arrested two suspects in Ayingba for having firearms, and found several exhibitions.

“The suspects were found to have locally made pistols, live cartridges, and alleged Indian flax.”
