The Kogi State Police Command has issued a strong warning to a suspended senator who represents Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uuduaghan to cancel his return event planned to celebrate the Sallah Festival with his constituents, quoting security issues.
The warning by the police will come after a prohibition on the demonstration and procession by the state government on Monday, another direction that was rejected by members of parliament was rejected to receive with an announcement on Tuesday that the event would take place on schedule.
But in a statement on Tuesday by the Police Commander Community Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, the troops confirmed the prohibition imposed by the government, no one intelligence had revealed plans by criminals to hijack the event and caused riots.
“Following the intelligence report on security threats in the state of Kogi and further prohibitions on all forms of rally and processions by the Kogi state government, Nigerian Police, the Kogi State Police Command has asked the organizer of a planned general meeting in Okene to cancel such events for peace purposes in the Kogi state,” the statement was read.
He added that allowing Natasha’s return event to be held could interfere with the prevailing peace in the state.
“The call to cancellation becomes necessary because intelligence reveals that some criminals plan to hijack the process and cause peace disorders in the state.
“The command is not able to endanger the peace that is currently enjoyed.
“Considering the security threats received at the planned general meeting, therefore the Kogi State Police Command suggested the organizer to cancel the event so that it could avoid legal details and order in the state.
“Because the order will not hesitate to apply full law to anyone who causes disruption of peace and order in the state,” the police statement emphasized.
