The Nigerian police have issued a stern warning to its personnel to the lobby for special promotions, following what is described as an increase in the trend of officers who made unofficial requests to the Inspector General of the Police and the Police Service Commission.

“This surge follows the new approval for the accelerated promotion for a number of appropriate officers who have distinguished themselves through exemplary services,” he said.
“The troops wanted to categorize that this accelerated promotion was not arbitrary but was part of a well-structured gift system, which was founded by the police leadership.”
