The president of Kenya William Ruto expressed the interest of his country to join the BRICS cooperation mechanism and to deepen his partnership with China in green energy and industrial development.

Ruto stressed that multilateral cooperation would open new export markets for Kenyan goods and encourage technological sharing for mutual growth.

Brics is the acronym for the powerful grouping of the main emerging economies of the world market, that is: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The Brics mechanism tries to promote peace, security, development and cooperation.

He expressed the readiness of Kenya to use Chinese technology and financial support to develop local production, including electric vehicles.

According to him, Kenya is open to multilateral cooperation and the expansion of export opportunities.

The trade between China and Kenya increased by 11.9 percent on an annual basis in the first quarter of 2025, reaching a historic maximum of 16.13 billion yuan ($ 2.2 billion).

This marks the sixth quarter of growth, with Chinese exports that increase by 11.8 percent and imports from the Kenya climbing by 13.2 percent.

At the same time, China has increased the supplies in Kenya of goods that contribute to the development of industry and the improvement of the quality of life.

Exports of intermediate assets increased by 11.4 percent, the consumption assets by 10.1 percent and the capital assets of 10.4 percent.

There has been an increase in the supplies of engineering equipment: Bulldozer exports increased by 112.4 percent, 190.6 percent diggers and the mobile cranes by 7.1 times.

Kenya remains China’s best commercial partner in Eastern Africa, while China is the largest import source of Kenya.
