Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ recently announced new coach Bruno Labbadia has made a U-turn on his intention to take over as head coach of the team, according to German newspaper Kicker.

Labbadia was announced on Tuesday as the new coach of the Nigeria senior national team, and was immediately tasked with managing the team for their upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda on September 7 and 10 respectively.

He was expected to arrive in Nigeria today for his official unveiling but a breakdown in talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) means he will not be able to make the trip as planned.

We reported earlier this morning that an agreement has not yet been reached with the NFF on certain areas relating to his coaching commitment, and Kicker in its post confirmed that the German has reservations about certain aspects outside of finances.

They described the deal as financially lucrative but the sudden rush by the NFF to announce its commitment when talks on other aspects of the deal were still pending angered the coach.

The report also says there were other organisational issues that were not resolved in time for the coach to take over, hence his decision to stop talks with the NFF, however he still has his dream of managing a national team in the future intact.
