Acting Chairperson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Iliya Damagum, on Friday, illustrates the resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party as a close and recurring development in its history.
Atiku dumped PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the opposition coalition adopted a platform for the 2027 general election, on Wednesday.
Damagum, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, said PDP was not surprised or too worried about Atiku’s way out.
He stressed that the party was used to the exit of the former president who repeatedly and returned for years.

The chairman stated that the Atiku movement was in harmony with historical patterns, adding that the party viewed its resignation as part of its political strategy rather than out of the end.
Damagum notes that the party’s calm response comes from its belief in resilience or skepticism of the eternity of Atiku’s decision.
“This is not the first time; we expect it (Atiku) to return,” said the chairman calmly.
