Tuesday the Senate expressed concern about the sudden rebirth of Boko Haram in the North-East, in particular in the Borno and Yobe States.
He asked for a rapid deployment of military personnel to contain the renewed threats.
According to reports, he also complained about the 12 soldiers killed on May 12 in the city of the local government of Mars, in the state of Borno and Gajiram, the headquarters of the local government of Nganzai who was attacked on Tuesday morning.
The senators of the States of Borno and Yobe attracted the attention of the Senate for the bad development in a motion of urgent public importance that have moved and presented jointly from the whisk of the Senate, Senator Moham made Tahir Monguno (APC Borno Nord).
In the motion, Monguno informed the Senate that on Monday 12 May 2025, the insurgents attacked and killed more than 12 soldiers in the city of Mars of Monguno LGA and early in the morning in Gajiram, also the headquarters of the local government of Nganzai, attacked.
He said that the country is experiencing a rebirth of Boko Haram, marked with greater attacks by the insurgents that aim for the communities, including those recently resetted and recovering strength after years of conflict.
He added that the insurgents employed a more modern technology, including the use of drones to unleash attacks on villages and communities in the United States just as the sect has resorted to the improvised sowing of explosive devices (IED) in strategic areas that, when they explode, always translate into high victims and hinder the vehicular movement.
Urged the return of military operations in full force in the states of Borno and Yobe and needs to equip them with the technology necessary to combat the nefarious activities of the insurgents,
He said that a strong presence of the military in the north -eastern area will actually screw a rebirth of Boko Haram.
In his resolution on the motion, the Senate urged the “high military command to quickly redistribute the staff sufficient for the North -est and make sure they are adequately equipped with modern technology and otherwise deal effectively tackling Boko Haram’s rebirth”.
He also imposed on army and aeronautical committees to guarantee compliance.
