Kevin Martins, son of former Nigerian international striker Obafemi Martins, made his senior debut for Italian Serie A side Monza yesterday in their 3-1 win over Brescia in the Coppa Italia, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
After coach Alessandro Nesta rested key players, the 19-year-old was chosen to play from the start and ended up playing the entire match, where he operated as a right winger.
It is the first step for the teenager who will seek to follow in the footsteps of his father, who had his breakthrough at Inter Milan in 2002 and played there for four more years. He also made 42 senior appearances for Nigeria and scored 18 goals.
Kevin was born in 2005, when Martins was still playing for Inter Milan, making him eligible for both Italy and Nigeria at senior level, and he has already represented Italy at U15 level.
He spent time in the Inter and AC Milan academy before moving to Monza in January 2023, where he impressed Nesta with his performance for the youth team, hence his senior debut.
