In a major encouragement for integrated development, the governor of nigerian southwest countries on Thursday officially launched a 262 pages of regional economic plan designed to accelerate infrastructure, increase security collaboration, and stimulate major sectors such as agriculture, education and industry.
The document, entitled “Action Plan for Regional Economic Development, Nigeria”, was presented during the strategic summit at the Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan. The event was organized by the Association of Head of Service Retired and Permanent Secretary of Southwest Nigeria (Arhosps-SWN) in a partnership with the development agenda for the West Nigerian Commission (DAWN).
The master plan describes the brave strategy to overcome the long-standing development challenges in six states, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti-by promoting coordinated governance, economic synergy, and sectoral transformation.
Speaking to the launch, the Governor of State Oyo Seyi Makinde, represented by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, said the initiative was an important step to overcome the economic and security decline faced by the region.
“Regional integration through road networks between countries will increase development in the Southwest,” Lawal said. He also showed that security localization was very important in dealing with bandits, added, “This has helped overcome armed bandits throughout the region.”
State Governor Osun Ademola Adeleke, represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, used a platform to advocate decentralized police.

“The state police are a way to go, because this will further increase security architecture in this region,” he said. Adeleke also convinced the participants that Osun would be involved in depth with the plan and was in line with its aim.
The Governor of Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, and Ondo-Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, Abiodun Oyebbanji, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, each-depwakili by their heads of service, all supported regional economic cooperation and the points of their states.
Ebenezer Okebukola, President of Arhosps-SWN, described the plan as an important product of in-depth considerations by experienced technocrats and civil servants who committed to the progress of the region.
“This book … represents our unwavering dedication to the land that has taken care of us and the generation who will follow,” said Okebukola.
He stressed that the plan includes a wide spectrum of development areas, including security, health care, energy, dense minerals, culture and tourism, transportation, agriculture, and governance.
The Director General of the Dawn Commission, Seye Oyeleye, praised the document as a vital policy compass that could map the southwest to sustainable prosperity.
“This is a repository of insight, strategy, and recommendations that can be followed up that will guide our regional development efforts,” Oyeleye said.
This event attracted the participation of senior officials and stakeholders in all regions, including the Head of the Oyo State Service, Olubunmi Oni, which reflects the integrated commitment for the joint economic vision for the southwest.
