The spokesman explains why the coalition led by Atiku adopted ADC

Spokesman for the National Opposition Coalition, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Wednesday explained why the group adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political platform ahead of the 2027 general election.

The opposition figures led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar gathered at the Yar’adua center in Abuja to uncover the executive committee for the ADC.

The other at the event was the presidential candidate of the Labor Party in the 2023 election. Peter Obi; Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, his colleague in the state of Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi, Dino Melaye and Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu.

Also at the meeting was a former Minister of Sports. Solomon Dalung, former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Emeka Ihedoha, and former Air Staff Chief Marshal Sadique Abubakar (RETD).

Abdullahi, who appeared on Channels Television Politics Today, said that the Adc adoption was driven by party openness to reform and harmonize with the value and vision with the coalition.

He said: “When we started this trip, we have a list of options, parameters, and requirements – types of parties we are looking for.

“People from APC said no, because the principles of establishment that caused the formation of APC had been betrayed.

“Those who from the PDP said the party, as the political giant, had been lost. Members of the Labor Party also expressed regret for their past experience. So everyone agreed that if we advance, we must have a series of agreed principles.

“Every party that we follow must allow us to restructure in accordance with our vision. Unfortunately, there is almost no political party today that realizes discipline and structure – not even like the first and second Republic parties.

“We found a party that agreed with the type of reform that was in our minds. If you say it’s weak like clay because it can be formed into a pot, then yes. That’s why we adopt it.”
