The Super Falcons maintain their 36th position in the latest FIFA women’s world ranking

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have maintained their 36th position in the latest FIFA World Rankings.

The latest rankings were published on the website of world football’s governing body on Friday, August 16, 2024.

In Africa, the Falcons remain in the number one position and are followed by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

The Falcons’ position was no surprise after their dismal showing at this summer’s Olympics in Paris.

The team finished last in a group that included Olympic finalists Brazil, Japan and world champions Spain.

In their opening match against Brazil, the Falcons lost 1-0 and also fell by the same margin to Spain.

The match against Japan also ended in defeat, as they lost 3-1 and ended their return to the Olympics with disappointment.

Africa’s other representative in Paris, Zambia, rose in the rankings and is now ranked 62nd.

Like the Falcons, the Zambians also lost all three of their group matches in their second appearance at the Olympics.

Other African teams to move up were South Africa, now ranked 50th, and Tunisia, now ranked 58th.

Paris Olympic champions USA regained top spot, silver medallist Brazil also moved up to eighth place, while Spain fell to third.

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be published on 20 December 2024.
