Thursday the Supreme Court rejected the appeal filed by Mr. ASUE IGHODALO and from the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) against the Governor of the Edo State, Senator on Monday Okpebholo.
Igodalo and PDP had dragged the governor to the Apex court to further support the declaration of the court verdict a few weeks ago.
Judge Garba Lawal, who issued the sentence, rejected the appeal due to lack of merit.
Igodalo was represented by Ken Mosia, San, who had prayed the apical court to remove Okpebholo and pronounce it winner of the elections.
His position was that he marked the majority of legitimate votes in the elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INC), represented by Kanu Agabi, San, had asked the Court to reject the appeal in its entirety.
In his arguments, Agabi said that Igehodalo and PDP had stigmatized as not valid and illegal for non -compliance with the electoral law 2022.
The electoral body said that, having declared illegal and illegal elections, Ighadalo and Pdp may not turn and pray the court to declare them winners of illegality.
Iner accused Ighidalo and PDP of being inconsistent in their grievances against the elections and has begged that their case was archived for lack of merit.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on May 29, confirmed the election of Okpebholo as governor of the Edo state.
The Court rejected the case of Igehodalo in the Governor’s elections of September 21, 2024.
Definition, a group of three members of the Court of Appeal led by judge Mohammed Danjuma unanimously declared that the appeal of Igehidalo was not meritorious and rejected him.
The verdict as a reaffirmation of the credibility of the nation’s electoral process.
The candidate for the Democratic Party Peoples (PDP) in the elections, dr. Asue Ighadalo, had approached the courts to challenge the Okpebholo declaration as the winner of the survey.
The resident electoral commissioner (REC) of the Inc in the Edo State, prof. Anugbum Onuoha, said this in a declaration, observing that the sentence of the Supreme Court has “restored the trust in our democratic institutions”.
Prof. Anugbum added that the judgment was a triumph for democracy and a claim of the integrity and professionalism of the inac under his administration.
He expressed gratitude to God, who has proven to be faithful and fair again.
