In a significant development, the sergeant to the weapons of the National Assembly, together with the combined staff of the security organizations, has lying the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan, located in Suites 2.05 of the Senate wing.
This move grants access to the senator suspended to his office and the premises of the National Assembly.
Recall that Senator Akpoti-Usuaghan was suspended for six months by the Senate for alleged violations against his permanent rules.
The suspension had aroused controversy, with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Afenifera who made the Senate’s decision member and asking for his restoration.
The NLC described the action of the Senate as “unjust, non -democratic and a dangerous precedent for Nigerian democracy”.
The development comes after a judgment of the court that the suspension was excessive and unconstitutional.
Despite this, the Senate had argued that Akpoti-Unduaghan could not resume his duties without a new resolution or an order of the final court.
With his office now not sealed, Akpoti-Auduaghan can access the premises of the National Assembly, potentially opening the way to her to resume her legislative duties.
However, the result of his case will depend on further judicial proceedings, since his lawyers have argued that it is not a flight risk and is alleged innocent until demonstrating the culprit.
