Nigeria’s chances of landing two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner Herve Renard as coach of the Nigeria senior national team have taken a major blow as the United States of America are reportedly interested in the French coach. Own goal Nigeria.com reports.
The United States is looking for a new coach after firing Gregg Berhalter following a disastrous Copa America campaign, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
Renard, who will leave his job as coach of the French women’s team after the Olympics, is at the top of the list of options to replace Berhalter, the coach who won the AFCON with Zambia and Ivory Coast respectively is a target for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as a replacement for Finidi George.
According to reports in France, he has received a contract proposal of 2 million euros per year from the NFF and also from the Egyptian football federation, but the one from the United States appears to be higher than the two proposals from the African countries.
He is expected to make public his next destination after studying each nation’s project, but there are also reports that he is interested in working in Africa again and that money will not be a major factor when making his decision.
