The Wike-led faction elected Doherty as chairman of the South West PDP

A faction of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday elected Mr Adedeji Doherty as South West Zonal Chairman.

Doherty, a former PDP Lagos chairman, emerged through consensus with 16 other executives at the South West Zonal Congress held in Ikeja, Lagos.

Chairman of the Congressional Committee, Olalekan Rotimi, said delegates from all South Western states were accredited for the exercise.

After presenting the list of deliberations and votes, Rotimi emphasized their election to manage party affairs for four years.

He listed the other executives as Oluwole Omotaye (Secretary), Clement Adefemi (Organizing Secretary), and Obe Gbolaro (Treasurer).

Others are Oluwakayode Gbadamosi (Finance Secretary), Akin Oyeniyi (Publicity Secretary), and Oyeniyi Akinloye (Youth Leader).

Also elected were Folake Marcus-Bello (Leader), Wale Ogunmodede (Auditor), and David Adedamola (Legal Advisor).

The ex-officio members include Adeyoola Adeleke (Osun), Bankole Olalekan (Oyo), Nurudeen Akande (Lagos), Gbenga Fianusi (Ondo), Oyetunji Opakunle (Ogun), and Omotosin Okeya (Ekiti).

Rotimi described the process as a family affair, and said the leaders agreed to a consensus for the sake of party stability.

He said: “Today, we can sit together as one family. This PDP is ours to protect.

“In accordance with the Election Law and party guidelines, implementation is carried out based on an agreed consensus.

“This represents everyone’s decision and will be reported to the national leadership.

“All positions are mutually categorized. These leaders will guide the party in these zones for four years.”

In his acceptance speech, Doherty thanked delegates and leaders for their loyalty during difficult times.

“Those here really love PDP. Staying here shows genuine commitment, not personal gain.

“Before us is a great responsibility and we accept to serve with all our strength,” he said.

He praised Wike for his contribution and said his team would tour South West states to strengthen the party.
