The Zamfara government chief of staff narrowly escaped death, when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle

Zamfara State Governor’s Chief of Staff, Mouktar Luggar escaped gunfire on Thursday when unidentified gunmen attacked and fired bullets at his convoy.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred along the Funtua-Gusau highway at around 18:16 near the village of Kucheri, as Lugga was returning to Gusau from official duties.

“Sources said the attackers emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the vehicle carrying the chief of staff, his driver and two other passengers,” the report said.

“A bullet reportedly penetrated the vehicle’s windshield and narrowly missed the driver, while another assailant attempted to shoot at close range but his weapon failed to fire.”

The publication said despite the attack, “the driver managed to steer his vehicle away from the ambush, and all passengers escaped unharmed.”
