‘There are ungrateful people everywhere,’ Wike again throws shade at Fubara as Rivers crisis worsens

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday hurled another insult at Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara as the two men continued their love-hate relationship.

The two countries, once allies, split last year over what many described as a battle for control of the country’s resources.

The two men no longer see eye to eye despite efforts by stakeholders in Rivers State and beyond to ensure a ceasefire in the interest of the state.

Wike, who spoke at an event organized in his honor by the Ijaw People’s Congress (IJC) in the state, warned the governor against inciting violence in the state.

The minister proudly recalled his role in the emergence of Fubara, an Ijaw man, as governor of the state in February last year.

He said: “Let me thank this team for the strategic meeting here today. First of all, when I was approached by Senator Johnson Nsakebor. He was sent by the Rivers Ijaw Congress, that they wanted to honor me. I asked what the point was.

“Why do you want to waste that much money? I need the money. Give it to me. But he said so many people go on television and speak as if they are speaking on behalf of the Ijaw people. I said okay, I will come and tell Nigerians.

“Today’s meeting is a message to those in Abuja who don’t understand. So if one day someone tells you, that the Ijaw people are fighting me. That is not true. We have some ungrateful people everywhere. A father could have 12 children and one of them could be an armed robber. Does that mean the whole family are armed robbers?

“So, everyone watching television is saying that the Ijaw people are against me. they asked, all the Ijaw people in the DPR were already positioned.

“Who did Fubara make? All the things you see are people jealous of our growth. They couldn’t do what we do today. These are people we have defeated politically several times. If there is another chance, we will beat them again.

“I have appointed an Ijaw man as governor of Rivers State. God uses us. All of us here are having sleepless nights. So who loves Ijaw more? Can’t people who appear on television even make their Ijaw brother governor? If they are that powerful, since the days of Rivers State, has an Ijaw ever been governor? Where are they?

“I have told the public that no one has a monopoly on causing violence. The fact that we choose to play by the rules of the law. To remain calm and not make ourselves investors who will run away, and that is what we will continue to do.”
