Nigerian Presidential has responded to the new US court orders who demanded the exemption of documents related to Ball President Ahmed Tinubu, which stated that the report had become public knowledge for more than 30 years and did not contain new information or which was burdensome.
Bayo Onanuga, a special advisor to the President of Information and Strategy, issued a statement through X (previously Twitter) on Sunday, stated that the contents of the FBI and DEA records were not new and did not involve the President.
“There is nothing new to be disclosed. Reports by MOSS agents from the FBI and DEA reports have been in public spaces for more than 30 years. The report did not charge the leader of Nigeria. The lawyers were examining the decision,” Onanuga said.
His comments followed the verdict by Judge Beryl Howell from the United States District Court for the Columbia District, who ordered the FBI and DEA to release documents that were not free related to the investigation involving President Tinubu, who came from the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed by researcher Aaron Greenspan.

Judge Howell’s decision stated, “They [FBI and DEA] has failed to meet their burden to maintain their glomar response, “referring to the rejection of previous agencies to confirm or deny the existence of notes. He further notes that the two institutions have” officially confirmed the Tinubu investigation relating to the drug trade ring, “and that any privacy interests are higher known by public rights.
The court reinforces Glomar Cia’s response, gives a decision of the agency summary, and directing all the remaining parties to submit a joint status report on May 2, 2025.
The President, however, stated that the court order did not provide new information and that President Tinubu was never charged. “These reports have been circulating since the 1990s. There are no criminal records, no charges, and no one suggested mistakes by President Tinubu,” the statement emphasized.
The statement continued, repeated the government’s attitude regarding transparency and compliance with the rule of law, and asked the public to focus on administrative efforts to economic recovery, national security, and development.
