Three months later, NCoS revealed the identities of 31 prisoners who escaped from Suleja prison.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has revealed the identities of 31 inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custody Centre in Suleja, Niger State on April 24, 2024.

The inmates, numbering more than 100, staged a daring escape after heavy rains soaked part of the prison’s perimeter fence and since then, most of them have not been recaptured while some have been caught and returned to prison.

However, NCoS spokesman ACC Abubakar Umar, in a statement on Thursday, said only 31 of the escaped inmates were still at large and later revealed their identities.

The statement reads:

“The Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to release information about some inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Detention Centre, Suleja, FCT Command, which was as a result of the collapse of the boundary wall of the facility following heavy rain on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

“This becomes relevant in the effort to recapture them and bring them back into custody.

“Here we convey information about the fugitives so that all security forces and the wider community can know so that they can search for them and try to catch them and bring them back to their place of origin.

“The public is also urged to cooperate with the Department to recapture escaped prisoners because they endanger public safety and national security.

“The general public is also informed that the Nigerian Correctional Service has implemented both overt and covert strategies to recapture all escaped inmates, while ensuring that security in detention facilities across the country is beefed up to prevent any security breach.

“If anyone sees the escape, the public can report it to the nearest security forces or can contact the following numbers: 07087086005, 09060004598, or 08075050006. The public can also contact us via email: email address: corrections.gov.ng or complaintsresponsedesk@koreksi.gov.ng“.
