The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) says that it is disappointed in the FIFA of the World Football Government Body for its decision to deduce three points of its account in the World Cup qualifiers to present a not eligible player, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.
FIFA officially communicated to South Africa the decision that sees them second in the group behind Benin Republic, and also transferred its closest rivals for the group of Nigeria of the group to just one point behind them.
South Africa committed the offensive in March when Teboho Mokoena, who had two yellow cards of previous games, played in the 2-0 victory over Lesotho. An offensive that automatically triggered three points, three goals with the deduction with Lesotho granted the game for technical land.
Reacting through a statement on its official website, Safa said they are disappointed by the way FIFA came to the decision using a man’s panel, and did not even allow them to present their case before affecting the deduction of points.
They made it clear that they will use the grace of the ten days to appeal the decision in the next few days, qualifying it as injustice. They also offered an apology to the people of South Africa.
“As Safa, we are deeply disappointed with this unprecedented result that indicates that it was delivered by a single member panel without reasons, and without providing the association with the opportunity to present legal arguments. The association confirms that we have requested written reasons for the sentence and intend to present a formal appeal with the FIFA Appeals Committee within the 10 -day prescribed period under the disciplinary rules of FIFA.”
“Despite the result, the association emphasizes its continuous commitment to support Bafana Bafana in its qualification campaign. The players and the technical team have worked extremely hard to reach this stage, and we continue to guarantee that they ensure the maximum points in the games ahead. We apologize to the nation by the nation for this administrative supervision and we will reflect on the steps to take to the conclusion of our qualification campaign.”
