Three Senators ditched PDP for APC

Three Senators on Wednesday dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors are – Senators Amos Yohanna (Adamawa), Abass Iya (Adawa) and Ikra Bilbis (Zamfara).

The defection of the senators was announced in a separate letter read by the President of the Senate, Insha Allah Akpabio, at the plenary session in Abuja.

These developments have led to a wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling party in recent months.

Yohanna, in his letter, stated that he was resigning from the PDP which sponsored his election to the Senate and defecting to the APC.

The lawmaker added that he dumped the PDP due to the party’s long-standing and unresolved internal divisions at the national level.

This, the senator said, has significantly disrupted the party’s cohesion and effective functioning.

“The prolonged crisis has created a structural rift within the party, which has had an impact on the national leadership and operational stability of the party.

“I hereby officially inform the Senate of my decision and official defection to the APC.

“This communication is intended to ensure full compliance with constitutional requirements and to inform the senate of the circumstances surrounding my resignation from the PDP and defection to the APC,” he said.

In his own letter, Iya said he formally informed the Senate of his decision to resign his membership of the PDP and formally defect to the APC with immediate effect.

“This follows a prolonged crisis at the national level.

“Deepening factions and ongoing leadership disputes resulting in numerous court cases have created uncertainty regarding the stability of the party and its possible prospects in the upcoming elections.

“This informed my decision to withdraw my membership in the party and defect to the APC,” he said.
