Tight security at National Assembly for emergency session

A significant security presence has been established at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja as lawmakers gather for an emergency plenary session today.

In an unusual move, Sergeant Major General of Police has restricted access to the National Assembly by erecting barricades at the MOPOL Gate and requiring identification to enter. The heightened security measures are reportedly intended to deter potential protesters.

The emergency session, announced on Sunday, will be held today, Wednesday. According to a statement from Rotimi Akin, the speaker of the House of Representatives, the session will discuss urgent legislative matters.
