The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Friday rejected the claim that its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, met with a former governor of the state in the south-south before he defected to the Congress of All Progressive (APC).
The commission reacted to claims by Paul Ibe, a spokesman for former Vice President Atsiku Abubakar, during the television program of the channel, Politics Today, on Thursday.
Ibe had said during the program that Olukoyede and lawyers General Federation met with former governors and his successor 48 hours before they switched to APC.
The duo of the former Governor of the State of Delta, Ifeiri Okowa, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori dispose of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) for APC on April 28.
Incidentally, Okowa is a couple who are running in the 2023 presidential election.
In a statement issued by its media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, EFCC said the claim was “made clearly.”
The statement reads: “The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, was angry with the unfounded claim of Mr. Paul Ibe, a spokesman for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President, accused that Ola Olukoyede, the executive chairman, held a secret meeting with an unnamed politician.
“Ibe, who is a guest in Seun Okinbaloye today on television Channels on Thursday, May 22, 2025, exhibited his thoughts on the theory, conjecture, and messy assumptions related to the politics of opposition and buyers.
“However, his accusation of the EFCC executive chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and the lawyer General who was allegedly a federation meeting with the Governor who was not mentioned forty-eight hours before his purchase of the decision of all the congress, APC, was clearly made up and in bad tastes.
“Olukoyede has emphasized him in several forums that he Apolitis and EFCC are really connected to the tendency of partisan.”
