Tinubbu signs that police training institutions support the law, 48 specialized academies to be set up nationally

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu consent to the bill of the institution of the police institutions of Nigeria, 2024, a global legislation that provides legal support for 48 police training institutes at national level.

The reference bill, sponsored by Senator Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam-Madori, marks a decisive step towards the institutionalization of police education, continuous professional development and the best global practices in the police.

The recently recognized training ecosystem includes five distinct categories: police colleges, police training schools, police tactical schools, police technical training schools and other specialized institutions, strategically distributed among the six geopolitical areas of the country.

Among the main police colleges now supported by law are the police college, Ikeja (Lagos State); Police College, Kaduna (Kaduna state); Police College, Maiduguri (Borno Stato); Police College, Oji River (ENUGU’s state); Police Staff College, Jos (Plateau State); And the Police Detective College, Enugu (ENUGU’s state).

In the second level, the police training schools were legally entrenched in Bauchi, Minna, Sokoto, Benin, Wanune, Calabar, Ilorin, Ibadan, Iperu, Jos, Ower-Tai, Ekoko’s extends, Ekiti, Gwaram, Malabu-Furfore, bands and other people who extend in serious formations.

Police tactical schools, now authorized to deliver elite operational training, include Mobile Training Schools in Gwoza (Borno State), Ila-Oragun (Osun State) and Ende-Hill (State of Nasarawa); Schools of terrorist unit (CTU) in the ninth-tai (State of the rivers) and Gombe (State of Gombe); Special Protection Unit (SPU) school in Kafin Hausa (Jigawa State); K9 Training School in Bukuru-Jos (Plateau State); Training school of troops mounted in Jos (plateau state); Marine Training School in Toru-Orua (State of Bayelsa); and the police pre-release school in Kudan (Kaduna State).

Based on the framework of the Police Technical Training Schools, the new law covers the Police Public Relations School in Lafia (State of Nasarawa) and its Abuja campus, the Central Planning and Training Unit (Jos, Plateau State), police school (Shere, Shere, and Kwara State), communication schools of Kudan and Ikeja, music school (Ikeja), police school). (Ikejay) (Abuja).

In addition to these, the law recognizes other specialized police institutions, including the Digital Study Police Institute and IT security in Abokuta (Ogun State), Police Police School and Obstetrics in Ezimo (State of Enugu), National Institute of Police Studies in Life Camp (Abuja), short service training institution short service service with short service service (State of State of Anambra).

Senator Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam-Madori, sponsor of the bill, described the presidential consensus as “a transformative moment in the internal security architecture of Nigeria”, noting that the law “professionalized the police formation, deepened the research on the management of security and aligned the culture of the supervisors of Nigeria with international police standards”.

The security experts have equally praised development, describing it as one of the most vast legislative interventions in the country’s history of the police.
