President Tinubu Bola has received the issuance of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as Chair of the Independent National Election Commission (Inec).
Jacobu resigned from his position on Tuesday morning after the end of his second term of office.
A national commissioner, May Agbamuche-MBU, has taken over the position of Acting Chairperson Inec.
In a statement issued by the Special Advisor in the Field of Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President best handed the national honor of the Commander of the Order Niger (CON) to Jacobu as a recognition of his service to the state.
The late former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Jacobu as Chair of Inec in November 2015.

The statement reads: “President Tinubu thanked Professor Jacobu for his services to the nation and his efforts to maintain Nigerian democracy, especially through the organization of free and fair elections for two periods of his term of office.
“As a recognition of Jacobu’s service to the state, President Tinubu has bestowed him to the honor of the commander of the order Niger.
“President Tinubu also directed that Professor Jacobu handed over to the most senior national commissioner, May Agbamuche-MBU, who would direct the commission affairs until the completion of the substitute appointment process.”
