The office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation [OHoSF] He started the appointment of five permanent secretaries, following the approval of President Bola Tinubu.
The positions include two vacant places created by the recent retirement of permanent secretaries of the IMO state and the territory of the federal capital and three zonal vacant places for North Central, North East and South -East, deriving from the creation of new ministries.
The head of the civil service [HoSF]Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, in a declaration issued on Sunday by the director, Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, said that the trial was designed to guarantee transparency, credibility and merit in line with the government’s commitment to good government.
According to her, only the officers qualified at level 17 that have spent at least two years in vote and have been authorized by their permanent secretaries since they are not eligible for disciplinary actions.
He said that the exercise began with the compilation and screening of admissible officers by a committee of permanent secretaries, monitored by the independent corrupt practices and other related crimes and by the Department of State Services.
He declared that the candidates also completed the declaration of activities with the Code of Conduct Office, while authorizations from EFCC, ICPC and DSS are underway.
Walson-Jack said that the written exam, the next phase of the trial, will be held on September 15 in a Federal Government structure, while successful candidates will proceed to a test of ICT competence on September 17th.
He added that the final phase, an oral interview, will be held on September 19 and will be conducted by a group of permanent secretaries in service and retired, former service leaders, president of the Federal Commission of the Civil Service and representatives of the private sector.
He said: “Anti -corruption agencies will also observe the process. The final recommendations will be presented to the President for approval.”
According to the HOS, the exercise underlines the government’s commitment for the professionalism, institutional capacity and improvement of the provision of services in the civil service.
Since he entered office, President Bola Tinubu has appointed no less than 26 permanent secretaries to fill the vacant places existing in the Federal Civil Service.
In November 2023, the president swore in eight new permanent secretaries. Eight more were sworn in June 2024.
In December 2024, a total of eight new permanent secretaries were appointed by the pool of qualified administrators in the Federal Civil Service, while two new permanent secretaries were appointed in March 2025. (NAN)
